HOSPITAL INQUIRY

HAWKE'S BAY BOARD

COMPLAINTS BY DOCTOR INQUIRY TO BE HELD [by tfxegrafh OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Monday The disappearance of X-ray films and a ease in which neo-hydriol had heen allegedly wrongfully injected into a patient were referred to by Dr. J. Allen Merr.v, a member of the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board, at its meeting, when he moved that a committee of inquiry be established to investigate these particular matters and to look into the supervision generally of the X-ray department. The motion was carried. Dr. Kerry referred to eases where X-ray films required for a Supreme Court hearing could not be found, although they should have been kept under lock and kev in the X-rav department at the hospital. The Supreme Court Judge, he said, would not view the loss of the films as a matter of no importance. Reference was also made by Dr. Berry to a patient of his who underwent an X-ray examination for kidney trouble. He alleged that as a result of an injection of neo-hydriol wrongfully given the patient had nearly died. "The board should have ascertained if there had been any negligence on the part of any of the board's officials," lie added. "The case should have been investigated up to the hilt, but the board has done nothing. There is an onus on this board to investigate the circumstances and it has not done so." Dr. Berry then moved that the chairman, Mr. 0. Lassen, the acting-medical superintendent, Dr. A. G. Clark, and Messrs. C. 0. Morse and C. Duff comprise a committee of inquiry to investigate the supervision of the X-ray department, disappearance of X-ray films, and the injection of neo-hydriol into one of his patients. The motion was finally carried.
