BOXER PROTESTS

DECISION OF REFEREE

RAYNER-HALL CONTEST APPEAL MADE TO COUNCIL [by telegraph—-own correspondent]] BLENHEIM. Friday An investigation into the control of his hout with the Australian .Too Hall at Grcymouth last Saturday has been asked for by the Blenheim professional boxer, Clarric Bayner, in a letter sent to the New Zealand Boxing Council. Hayner takes objection both to the decision and control of the match, and asks for a reversal of the decision, which was awarded Hall on a foul, stating that ho knocked out his opponent with a right cross to the jaw in the fourth round. The bout was described as one of the roughest seen in Grcymouth for many years, and it was stated that the climax of illegal tactics came when Bayner in the liflli round brought his knee up under Hall when the latter was crouching and knocked him out. It was also alleged that a good deal of fighting took place outside the ropes. In his letter, Rayner admits that, owing to the loose ropes, both ho and his opponent went through several times, but alleges that Hall was the aggressor when outside the ring.

In the fourth round, he says, both were ordered to box on after being through the ropes, and Hall came in quickly to lead. Bayner crossed with his right to the jaw and Hall fell, Bayner also falling partly through the momentum of his blow and partly through the force of Hall's rush. Bayner was on his feet at once, and the referee counted up to five while tho crowd was hooting. The referee then ceased to count and ordered both boxers to their corners. Hall was still out, and the referee carried him back to his

corner, the gong for tho end of the round sounding quite along time—more than ten seconds—after the blow which knocked Hall out.

When tho gong sounded for the start of the fifth round tho referee raised Hall's hand. Bayner says ho has still to learn the ground for the decision for Hall, and asks the council to take the necessary steps to have the decision reversed.
