MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
DAME MELBA BEQUEST An announcement of great importance to serious students of singing is that the second award of the Dame Nellie Melba Bequest Scholarship •will be competed for ijext February. The successful student will be awarded a scholarship of an average value of £lO9 per annum for two years, provision being made for the possible extension for a further 12 months at the discretion of the director of the Albert Street Conservatorium, Melbourne, The scholarship originated with a gift of £BOQO to the Albert Street Conservatorium by the late Dame Melba to be applied in perpetuity for a scholarship in music. The scholarship is ' not restricted to Australian-born girls,'but is open to all women, of any voice, trained or untrained, who are not under 17 years of age at'the time of the award. Provision also is mrido for nn allowance toward maintenance, books, music and reasonable travelling expenses. The present holder of the scholarship is Miss ITinemoa ftosieur, a New Zealand girl, who is finishing her third vear of study at the conservatorium.
