\ / Jubilee.—Mrs. Higgins presided at a meeting of the institute. The roll call ■was "What I have learned through the \ institute.'' Mrs. Owsley gave a talk on the work of the Sunshine League, and judged the vases of spring flowers. She iawarded the first prize to Mrs. ThornIs ley for hur vase of sweet peas, and second prize to Mrs. Forster. Mrs. Lux'""ford's talk on "the sick room," was greatly appreciated. In the competitions, Mrs. Sandos was first with the best jar of marmalade, with Mrs. Thornley second, and for the best pine _ .needle article, Mrs. Forster was first with a workbasket, and Mrs. Sandos ■j second with a cake basket. A short sketch by the drama circle, "At the conference," was much enjoyed. After- ? noon tea was served by the members of the committee, who were hostesses for ! the day Te Atatu.—An illustrated lecture of outstanding beauty and interest was given by Mr. Alan Browne, F.11.G.5. A.R.C.A., under the auspices of the Te Atatu Women's Institute in the le Atatu Hall, when a very appreciative audience was shown views of the Southern Alps. In describing the beautiful scenery shown in his slides, which had been coloured by himself, Mr. Browne gave details of the journey along the scenic roads before ascending the mountains, and also of the actual climbing among the mountains. Whangarei Centre. —Special reference to the success of the activities of the drama circle was made at the monthly meeting of the Whangarei Centre of: the Women's Institute. Miss Broughton Carr .stated that the circle had been successful in the recent competitions in winning the Crosby Challenge. Cup for , the best comedy, a special prize for a Scottish fantasy, and a second place in a drama, the recent competitions held by the institutes had been marked by keen friendly competition. The president of the centre, Mrs Hirtzel, congratulated Miss Broughton-Carr and the members of the drama circle upon their excellent performances, and the increase in membership. Maramarua-Kopuku.—A meeting of women was held in the Maramarua Hall recently, when it was decided to form an institute. Mrs. McElwain, of Waiuku, spoke of the aims of the organisation, following which the following officers were elected: —President, Mra C. J. Drake; vice-president. Mrs. J Baldwin; hon. secretary, Mrs. G. It. Stunell; hon. treasurer, Mrs. F Symes; committee, Mrs. C. J. Drake, Mrs. Neil Mrs. J. Baldwin, Mrs. Weston, Mrs. Symes, Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. L. Pacey, Mrs. Downie, Mrs. G. It. Stunell, Mrs. F. Symes. Silverdf.le.—The monthly meeting, presided over by Mrs. E. R. Sawer, was well attended, members bringing a very beautiful collection of curios and handwork for display. Mrs. Moller, of the Brown's Bay institute, gave a most instructive and interesting talk, including a report on the Dunedin council meeting. The prize for the prettiest posy of spring flowers went to Mrs. Sainsbury, the posy afterwards being presented to Mrs. Moller, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was passed. Afternoon tea concluded the meeting. Arkles Bay.—l'he roll call, "What I enjoy most, brought forth some unexpected and original answers at a meeting of the institute. A talk on gardening by Mr. Henry was much appreciated. Mrs. Hair read an interesting article describing Glamis Castle. The competition for the best baby's knitted singlet was won by Miss Harvey. The members exchanged plants, seeds and cuttings. The hostesses wero Mrs. Wilks and Miss Harvey Awhina.—The institute held its monthly meeting at Meeting House, Paeroa, Mrs. 11. Williams presiding. A competition for scones was won bv Mrs. T Royal, of Kornata A very interesting demonstration ori flax-weaving was given by Mrs. P Watene, Kopu. Mrs. Eppu also aave an interesting talk on institute work followed by two recitations Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Brown and Harrison East Tnmnki.—At the monthly meeting of the East Tamaki Women's Institute, Mrs Quinn presided The roll call. "Suggestions for breakfast." brousrht forward many excellent ideas. Miss Wilson, of Papatoetoe, gave a demonstration of the art of tatting and displayed some very delicate pieces of work. An interesting debate was held on the merits of "summer time." the general opinion being that it was not beneficial to country folks The prize for the hpst school lnnoh was won hv iss B Ferguson, and the nlnin sowing comnetiHon was won hv Miss A. Ferguson. A musical parcel game provided enjoyable entertainment, the winner being Mrs T. W Wright.
