CITY SEWING CIRCLE
HOSPITAL AUXILIARY NEW CLOTHES FROM OLD At the club room of the City Sewing Circle of tho Auckland Hospital Auxiliary a demonstration was given by tho convener of tho circle, Mrs. Carr-Smith, of making usable articles of clothing from old or used garments. After welcoming tho members and visitors, Sirs. Carr-Smith explained that the renovation of used clothing was but one phase of tho work, the other, and chief, being the making up of new material. Tho sowing circle was tho department of tho hospital auxiliary which provided clothing for the sick poor of the hospital and infirmary during illness and also during convalescence at home. The work was done by voluntary workers who met weekly at the room provided gratuitously by the kindness of the Order of the Good Shepherd. The circle was helped considerably, she added, by donations of parcels of clothing. Otherwise it was supported by a grant from tho executive and by contributions from members. The demonstration, which revealed much initiative and ingenuity, showed attractive clothing made from used garments. In many instances it seemed as though the proverbial fairy wand, or conjurer, had been at work, so marvellous were the results. A unanimous vote of thanks to the convener was carried by acclamation. Morning tea was served and closed an interesting and informative demonstration.
