JEAN BATTEN FAST PROGRESS MADE ARRIVAL AT BASRA EN ROUTE TO INDIA KARACHI NEXT STOP By Telegraph—Press Associaton—Copyright r < (Received October 7, 11.55 p.m.) BASRA, Oct. 7 Miss Jean Batten, of Auckland, who loft Lympne, J\ent, on Monday morning on a flight to New Zealand, via Australia, is making rapid progress. The airwoman arrived at Basra at 3.50 a.m. to-day (Greenwich mean time) and left again for Karachi at 4.45 a.m. Miss Batten reached tho Cyprus airport yesterday. after a record trip from Brinciisi. Having refuelled her machine she left again without delay. Subsequently, Miss Batmen landed at the Irak Petroleum Company's pumping station, midway between Damascus and Bagdad. From there she flew on to Basra.
The achievement of Miss Batten in flving from London in two days is highly praised, especially her splendid flying across Irak. She intends to fly from Karachi non-stop to Calcutta.
