IMPROVEMENT SCHEME
FACILITIES AT MANUREWA PROPOSAL FOR RATEPAYERS The provision of community facilities and a scheme of general improvements in the district were approved at a special meeting of the Manurewa Town Board. It was decided to submit several of the proposals to a meeting of ratepayers. The need for a public hall, with a library, reading room and a ladies' room, was urged by several members. It was suggested that a central site should be secured, which would also be sufficiently large to contain offices for the board. The board also decided to co-operate with the school committee and the Education Board in providing a public swimming bath in the school grounds, and to assist in raising funds. Other proposals adopted included the extension of Massey Road from Station Road to Weymouth Road to provide a subsidiary route to give access to Brown's Road; the erection of a pavilion in the Jellicoe Park reserve; the kerbing and channelling of a scheduled list of footpaths; and the straightening of the bowling green boundary between Hall and Hill Roads. It was stated that, while it would not be practicable to undertake the major schemes immediately, it-was desirable to have them included in a comprehensive plan to be completed according to the finances available.
