FAIR TO FINE AT FIRST RAIN LIKELY IN SOME PARTS Tho weather report an<l forecast for New Zealand, issued last r von in 2; by tho Government meteorologist, were as follows:- —An niiti-evclcmo extends over northern Now Zealand, hut a fresh westerly depression of moderate intensity is advancing rapidly across the south Tasinan Sea. Indications are for westerly to north-westerly winds, mainly moderate in force at first, but increasing and later reaching force at places about Cook and Foveaux Straits, ami changing to south-westerly in the southern portion of tho South Island to-morrow. Seas rather rough to rough in Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, hut rising south of Capo Kgmont and about Cook Strait. In the eastern Tasman Sea, north-west to west winds, rnoderate in the northern portion with slight, to moderate seas, and strong in the southern portion with rather rough to rou<zh seas. Winds changing to south-west to-morrow in the southern portions. Weather fair to fine generally at first, but soon clouding over and rain rlevc'opine; in the western and southern portions of the South Island later. Soattored rains probable also in the western districts of tho North Island, Temperatures mild hut becoming cooler to-morrow in the South Island. " SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST SCATTERED P. A INS DEVELOPING The Government meteorologist issued to the HBitam> last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southwesterly to westerly winds, veering shortly temporarily to north-westerlies. Weather for the most part fair and mild, but cloud increasing during Thursday and scattered rains developing. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was a continuation of cloudy, showery conditions early vesterdav morning, but afterwards fine weather and a moderate southerly wind were experienced. The temperature at 1 p.m. was 61dcg. The barometer was high last night, after rising, .loin, during the 21 Hours Barometer, midnight. rising .. 30.351n. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 30.20 in. Wellington.—Fine, clear weather prevailed, with a moderate northerly wind. The maximum l temperature was 60 degrees. Christchurch. —After five degrees of frost, the weather was sunny and warm with a very light east-north-east breeze in the morning, freshening in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 62 degrees. The barometer fell very slowly to 29.98 in. Dunedin. —The day was . calm and mild, with intermittent sunshine. The barometer fell from 30'.00in. in the morning to 29.80 in. last night. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees.
