YIELDS OF COMPANIES Alexander (Reefton). —Return for September: Battery department: 510 tons crushed for 3140z. Ddwt. of melted gold. Cyanide department: 315 tons of sands treated for 750z. lSdwt. of bullion. Total estimated value, £2613. In addition, 12.3 tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £351. In estimating the above values gold has been taken at £7 a line ounce. T?iidu (West Coast). —Clean up at October 5. 216 crude oz. for 124J hours and 56,095 yards.

UPPER WATUT PLANT Advice lias been received from the mine manager of Upper Watut Gold Alluvials X.L., New Guinea, that the complete gravel pumping plant is expected to be in operation by the middle of October. Ground sluicing is progressing on the area below the power house site. DREDGES RECOMMENCE The Rimu Gold Dredging Company, Limited (West Coast), dredge, which had been out of action since it partially capsized some time ago, recommenced operations last week, and has been working satisfactorily. The Brian Born Gold Dredging Company, Limited (West Coast), reports that the dredge, which has been undergoing repairs and alterations for some time, has recommenced operations after a long suspension of dredging operations. The dredge is -working intermittently for a week or. two until the. motors and plant generally are run in. The plant is running satisfactorily, and the company will shortly be joining the list of dredges making regular returns. REPORTS OF MANAGERS Big River (Reefton).—Week ended September 2S: Repairs to airway between No. 3 and t levels and including some filling nt, the head of the airway in No. 3 level have been under way. No. 4 level: Stoping on the centre block and south block are in progress. The reef in the former block appears to be splitting into two sections. Reef in t.he south block is supplying good quality stone. No. 5 level: This drive was advanced 15ft. making a total of 13« ft from the main shaft. During the period the mine did not work for one day owing to exchanging winding cage in north compartment of main shaft for a reconditioned one; 39 tons of stone were sent to the battery for the week. ' . Maori Guiiy (West Coast).—The dredge has now returned to the creek after working for about six weeks in a loop outside the area prospected. Entering the loop, the were much more than payable, but on tno return they declined. Since the present return the dredge has pulled to the other ® lde . h . the flat to square up the face and when this is completed in a week or 10 days a face of tiie flat will be available for working.
