PROMINENT CYCLIST

SUCCESS OF H. G. WATSON Undoubtedly, H. G. Watson, New Zealand's foremost road racing cyclist, was tho hero of the most strenuous of Victorian long distance events, the Barnet Glass Grand Prix of 160 miles, through mountain country, says an Australian writer. Watson was left three times by his fellow members of the scratch group, yet he regained hit; lost ground on each occasion, and went on to mako fastest time and a record for the race.

What made Watson's success the more remarkable, quito apart from the fact that ho appeared to be a beaten man more than once during the race, was that ho had not been well since arriving from New Zealand. Last year Norman Lloyd made fastest time with Bhrs 14min 50sec. Watson's time was 71irs 49min 31sec. It should be stated, however, that the weather and road conditions this year were much better than those in 1935.
