FAIR ON EAST COAST RAIN IN OTHER PARTS The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A depression is crossing the Dominion to-day, and it is being followed by a secondary across the Tag. man Sea. An anti-cyclono is still centred north of New Zealand, and another is now located over Eastern Australia. The forecast is for winds northerly to westerly predominating, strong and squally in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas, but otherwise mainly moderate, backing at times to south-westerly in many places. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough to rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and on pirts of the west coast south of Cape .Egmont; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasnian Sea: Winds between "est and south-west prevailing, but later backing again" to northwest, strong at timeß, with rather rough seau in the northern portion, but otherwise moderate, with slight to moderate seas. The weather is likely to Iw mainly fair in eastern ccastal areas, otherwise cloudy to overcaist, and with rain at times, but more especially in districts with a westerly asfiect, improving during to-morrow in most parts. Temperatures cool to moderate. SPECIAL AUCKLAND S'OREGAST CHANGEABLE, WITH SHOWERS The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh westerly winds, .backing temporarily in places to south-westerly. The weather is likely to be changeable, with scattered showers and cool to moderate temperatures. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—A light north-west wind and overcast, threatening'weather yesterday morning were followed by continuous light rain during the afternoon. The conditions continued overcast in the evening, when the wind increased to a fresh breeze. The barometer was well above normal. After falling slightly at mid-dav, it remained steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.20 in, Midnight. Monday .. .. 30.301n. Wellington.—The weather was dull and threatening throughout the day, with a strong and gusty north-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 59 degrees. Christchurch. —The day was fine, but cloudy, with a very strong east-north-east wind in the morning and a strong easterly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 56.6 degrees. The barometer, after falling slowly, later rose to 30.Qlirt. Dunedin. —Pleasant conditions prevailed, with a slight breeze from the south-west. There were passing clouds and, although rain threaterued late in the afternoon, none fell. The maximum temperature was 60 degrees and the barometer registered 29.S0in. last night.
