CRICKET CONTROL
INDIAN TOUR ABANDONED PLUNKET SHIELD STATUS FIFTH DISTRICT SUGGESTED Advice that arrangements for a proposed tour of New Zealand by an Indian team had been definitely cancelled was received from the New Zealand Council at last evening's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association. The council stated that matters of extreme difficulty had arisen in the State of Nananagar. which had made it impossible- for the Maharajah to carry out the proposed visit. The council forwarded a letter received from the Manawatu Association, which suggested the inclusion of a fifth team in the Plunket Shield competition by the creation of a Plunket Shield district consisting of the nine minor associations in tho Wellington district, with headquarters at Talmerston North. The Manawatu ' Association considered that the improved cricket shown in districts covered by such associations as Taranaki, Jlawke's Bay and Manawatu justified such a move, and that the present riunket ShTrld system was not. in the best nterests of NewZealand cricket as a whole, in that promising country players did not receive the recognition they deserved. The council stated ' that the matter would be discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association at Christchurch next nonth. The committee decided to defer consideration of tho question until the return of the chairman, Mr. W. K Fee. from his visit to the South. The Auckland University Club offered its congratulations on the initiatives shown by the association in proposing ;■ capital endowment scheme, and the club premised its fullest support in the matter. Mr. 11. Duncan reported that the Fukekohe Association had expressed a. desire to be permitted to enter a team in tho asso- i ciatfon's senior B grade competition. The Pukekohe body had advised that, in the j event of its application being accepted, it would not expect city teams to travel to t the country. Members of the committee ! pointed out that, according to a by-law of the association, a team entering the senior j B competition was required to field a junior j team as well. It was resolved to notify the j Pukekohe Association that before its appli- I cation could be considered it would have J to efae an assurance that it would be able to field two teams. i On the suggestion of the finance committee it was agreed that the secretary, Mr. A Christmas, should also be appointed treasurer, and that Mr. E. .1. Price should be appointed assistant-secretary and treasurer. : The following affiliations of senior B clubs | to first grade clubs were approved:—Bal- ; moral, to Ponsonby, Stanley Bay. to !
