STOCK EMBARGO
Sir, —May 1 draw attention to the lack of accuracy by correspondents who advocate removal of the embargo on stock coming from countries where foot and mouth disease exists. On September 26 Air. Roseoe Smith, lately returned from Britain, wrote in your correspondence columns: "There has been no outbreak now for over two years, and outbreaks are considerably less than they have ever been." That is incorrect. In Monday's issue another correspondent, writing to an English paper, was quoted as saying there had never been an outbreak in Ireland. It is not long since Northern Irish stock was under an interdict in Britain on account of an outbreak of foot and mouth disease. Tliq greatest inaccuracy of all, however, is the persistent presentation of the embargo as "against Britain." If this Dominion has an embargo "against Britain," then against what particular country is the British embargo intended to operate? A. E. Robinson, Provincial Secretary, N.Z.F.TT.
