RICHARD CROOKS
THE AUCKLAND SEASON There is every indication that the famous tenor, Richard Crooks, will bo welcomed by a wonderful audience at the Town Hall next Saturday niglit, when the inaugural concert of the Auckland season of three concerts will be given. Between two and threo hundred letters are being received daily by the management requesting the inclusion of favourite numbers on the programme. In view of all these inquiries and requests, Mr. Crooks has arranged to leave the last group of each programme open to selection by popular vote. Therefore, music-lovers are invited to send in the names of items desired in order to reach the artist by Friday evening next. It is the desire of Mr. Crooks to reach all shades of musical taste. Ho believes that music is as personal a medium of expression as conversation, and ho definitely enjoys sharing an evening with his audience as a man would among friends. This quality of being immediately in sympathy with his audience endeared him to the New Zealand public in Wellington, Christehurch and Dtinedin, where every houso was sold out to capacity. The Auckland concerts will take placo next Saturday and the following Tuesday and Thursday nights. Every effort has been made by cablegram to extend the season in New Zealand, but owing to contracts entered into it is iinperativo for Mr. Crooks to leave according to present arrangements for America, where ho is due to sing at the Metropolitan Opera Houso. The Mariposa will bo delayed at Honolulu in order that the celebrated tenor may give one concert there, every seat for which has already been sold.
