THE ORPHANS' CLUB
LEAGUE OF NATIONS Reference was made by the chairman, Sir George Richardson, at the Auckland Orphans' Club 011 Saturday night, to the session in progress of the League of Nations at Geneva. He explained the constitution and scope of the League, which, he said, had proved a ghastly failure for the prevention of war. The British Empire should not rely 011 the League for its defence, which it should make adequate to ensure peace. Support, however, should be continued for the League, because of the good work it was doing in the direction of endeavouring to promote goodwill and bring about a better understanding between the nations and peoples of the world. The announcement was made that the club's session would close in a fortnight with a " ladies' night." An enjoyable programme was contributed, including selections by "the orchestra under Mr. Harold Baxter.
