OPENING OF THE SEASON KENSINGTON CLUB'S FUNCTION fFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Sunday The Kensington Croquet Club opened tbo season yesterday afternoon in beautiful weather and in the presonce of a large attendance. The president of the Kensington Bowling Club, Mr. K. G. M. Kelly, congratulated tho club on its success during tho past year. The Mayoress, Mrs. W. Jones, oxpressed pleasure at the improvements carried ont by the club during the year, including the fine new pavilion. She declared tho lawns open for play and then drove the first ball. MATAMATA CLUB [from our own correspondent] MATAMATA, Sunday The official opening of the Matamata Croquet Club took place yestorday, Mrs. J. Buchanan welcoming visitors and intending mombers. In declaring the greens open for tho 1936-37 season she called upon Mrs. J. Whitu to play the first ball. Tho progressive tournament resulted in a win for Mrs. Henderson (Hamilton) in the A. grado. In the B grade Mrs. Guillard, of Putaruru, wan successful. r OPENING AT WAIPU [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Sunday The Waipu Croquet Club opened the season yesterday p.Tternoon in beautiful weathor, and there was a largo attendance, including visitors from tho Whangarei and Kensington Clubs. Tho vice-president of the Waipu Bowling Club, Mr 'C. 0. Langhorn, congratulated the club on the good prospects for tho season. The president, Mrs. A. S. Boldero, welcomed tho visitors and drove the first ball. The afternoon was occupied with competitions and various croquet games.
