GOOD NEWS FOR MARS
Sir. —Your correspondent Rev. J. C. Fussell appears to have fallen into the common pitfall. The late Dr. Doarmer says: "To take every phrase of a parable and ijive it a separate meaning is to convert a parable into an allegorv; and this is the way in which people in the past have managed to misunderstand the teaching of Christ. The parables in list not be used in this way, as if they had many subsidiary points instead ot" the one point with which thev deal. The whole subject will be found in the great classic on the parables: Adolf Julicher "Die Gleichnisreden Jesu" (published by J. C. B. Mohn, Tubingen), or for those who do not know German the excellent short English book "The Parables of Jesus, by A. T. Cadoux (published by Clarke). Tauranga. D. Kn'OWLES.
