COOL TEMPERATURES MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A series of slight westerly depressions has been crossing the Domin. ion, affecting principally the western and southern portions. An anti-cyclone is now approaching across the Tasmau Sea, but barometers are again falling ' over south-eastern Australia. The fore* cast is for westerly to south-westerly winds prevailing but veering again to north-westerly later in places about and south of Cook Strait, of force light to moderate mainly, but strong in some exposed positions. Seas rather rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook Strait, rough about Foveaux Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasmau Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly to westerly winds, veering later to north-westerly. Seas rough in the southern portion, elsewhere moderate. The weather i 6 likely to be for the most part fair to fine and rather cool. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST WEST TO SOUTH-WEST WINDS The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—Light to fresh westerly to south-westerly winds. Occasional passing showers are probable at first, more especially in western parts, but the weather is likely to be mainly fine with cool to moderate temperatures. Sea« moderate on the west coast and slight to moderate on the east. WEEK-END WEATHER Auckland. —There was a.continuation of fine weather on Saturday, but yesterday was dull and overcast and light misty rain was experienced in the afternoon, the evening being fine. A light to moderate westerly wind prevailed during both days. Tho. temperature was mud, the thermometer at 4 p.m. yesterday recording 61 degrees. The barometer was practically steady until yesterday afternoon and afterward it rose .10in. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.251n. Midnight, Saturday .. 30.161n, Wellington. —Saturday morning was mainly overcast and misty, with a strong, gusty north-westerly wind at times reaching gale force. In the afternoon the wind decreased slightly and the clouds lifted somewhat. The maximum temperature was 58.6 degrees. Yesterday was fine and sunny with a moderate north-westerly wind in the morning and a light south-westerly breeze in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees. Ohristehurch. —An exceptionally hot north-westerly wind blew undfer an overcast sky on Saturday, with little sunshine. Yesterday morning was sunny, with a mild temperature and a fresh northerly wind." but the sky clouded over in the afternoon. The barometer was steady at 29.95 in. Dunedin.—The sun shone brightly early on Saturday morning, but there were heavy clouds later and for a time conditions were dull and threatening. In the afternoon, however, there was again a period of strong sunshine, and the maximum temperature reached 69 degrees. A fresh to strong south-rrest-erly wind prevailed throughout the day. The barometer rose from 29.40 in. to 29.75 in. There was again a fresh breezo from the south-west yesterday and passing clouds obscured the sun for brief periods.
