Columbia to Back New British Films
EIGHT PICTURES PLANNED As a result of an agreement between Mr. Harry Colin and Mr. Jack Cohn, of the Columbia Corporation of Hollywood, and Mr. Paul Soskin, who recently made the successful "Two's Company" at Elstree, Soskin Productions, Limited, will have Columbia's backing in the making of eight British pictures. In the past American companies have mostly confined themselves to cheap British films required to comply with the quota law. As evidence of a desire to get away from this type of picture, which has been so injurious to the British industry, it has been decided that at least three of the eight shall cost £BO,OOO each, and the others not 1 less than £-10,000. | Mr. Soskin will have the full coi operation of Columbia's Hollywood | studios, and leading directors, stars, I script writers and technicians will be i made available. Columbia's present team includes I such celebrated directors and stars as Frank Capra, Elliott Nugent, Victor Schertzinger, Grace Moore, Melvyn Douglas, George Bancroft, Leo Carillo and Walter Connolly. The Cohn brothers and Mr. Soskin nro determined that the new pictures shall ho a credit to England and good enough for the world market.
