RACES AT MURIWAI GOOD DAY'S SPORT BEACH FAIRLY HEAVY Fine weather favoured the Auckland Motor-cycling Club's beach meeting at Muriwai on Sunday, and although rain set in during the afternoon, tho races had been run off and riders were heading home when the weather chunked The beach was fairly heavy, and while machines were standing ready to bo sent away the wheels had sunk several inches into the sand. Corners were particularly churned up and required considerable dexterity in rounding. Several falls occurred during the meeting, ali of these being on tho turns, 110 damage resulting to riders or machines. Although the first race began at approximately 10 a.m., there was a very attendance. Results were as follows: 5 Milo Open Sido-car Handicap.—P. Hookway (Norton), 1; F. Thomson (Ariel), 2; H. Butty (U.S.A.), 3. Time, 7m. 15 1-53. After catching tho limit men. Ilookway toured in to win easily. Touring Cyclo Handicap, 5 miles.—H. Mattbows (Budge), 1; P Mackie (Velocotto), 2; E. Oroves (Norton), 3. Time, 7m 10s. Matthews rodo a good race from scratch and woncomfortably. 3F>o C.C. Handicap, 5 miles.—K Kennerley (Arlol), l; 0. Buchanan (Vclocotte), 2; IS. Parker (Volocette), 3. Time, 5m 44 4-ss. Riding a standard machine, the winnor showed good judgment on the corners with tho other two placed men close behind. 500 C.C. Open Handicap, 5 miles.—ll. Matthews (Iludge), 1: D. Manson (Levis), 2j P. Hookway (Norton). 3. Time, Om. This 1 was un exciting raco and a good win for Matthews. Tho second man, Manson, showed promise for n now-comor and made good use of his handicap. Open Handicap, 5 miles.—C. Buchanan (Velocette), 1; E. Parker (Velocotto). 2; T Crowder (Norton), 3. Timo, 5m 48 3-5s Mounted on a 350 c.c. machine, Buchanan hold his lead from a big field of fast machines, but was chased homo by several others. Consolation Handicap, 6 miles.—E. Parker (Velocetto), 1; N. Warry (Levis), 2; S. Hookway (Norton), 3. There were soveral spills on tho corners In this race owing to tho churned up state of tho boach. but the riders wore able to get going again. Warry chasod the winner homo, while 8. Hookway finished Just ahead of Crowder An exciting finish to a good day's racing.
