LONG WALKING TOUR

GREAT BRITAIN TRAVERSED A walking tour from one of the British Isles to the other—Land's End to John O'Groats—and back to London, was made in slightly more than two months for under £2O by Mr. E. Stanmore Day, a retired Auckland business man, who has now returned to the Dominion. Mr. Day, who is 62 years of age, walked from Land's End to John O'Groats to redeem a promise that he made when at school. He walked 2000 miles through New Zealand before leaving Auckland on March 16. After having his notebook signed by the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Percy Vincent, and Sir James Parr, Mr. Day left Aidgate on May 26 and walked through Devon and Cornwall to Lands End. He then started on the way to the most northern point in Great Britain, lecturing on New Zealand at different schools, and visiting the Mayors or other public officials at each town to obtain their signatures in his notebook. Mr. Day arrived on July 15 at John O'Groats, Caithness, where the postmaster stamped the name of the post office in his notebook. The return journey ended at Aldgate on August 10. Mr. Day had 5s of his £2O left, a notebook packed with signatures and seals, and another book of newspaper clippings.
