NAUTICAL FAIR

HARBOUR LIGHTS GUILD A nautical fair, organised by the Harbour Lights Guild, in aid of the welfare work of the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen, was opened by the Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis, in the Town Hall concert chamber yesterday morning. The hall was draped with the flags of different countries and with ships' posters arranged at intervals, each stall being named after a boat. The platform was decorated with pp-lms, cyclamen, cinerarias and ornamental grass, and in front were on view a number of beautifully-fashioned model old-time ships. The Mayoress, who wore a black coat and hat to match, was received by the president of the guild, Mrs. Preston Chambers, and by the Rev. H. iv. Vickcry, tho port chaplain, and was presented with a bouquet by little Alwyn Chambers. Mrs. E. W. J. Bowden, tho honorary secretary, was also prose 11 j ntro( j ucec ] Mrs. Davis to* tho gathering, and referred to the | sympathy and help of., the Mayor in all matters connected with the water"We must all sympathise with tho object of this fair," said the Mayoress, "for we know the good work done by the missions to seamen in this city_. Pullimore and Aliss Marie Alarsaclc, and the evening's "Ashore and Afloat" programme included songs by tho Lyric Four, national and fancy dancing by Aliss Alavis Ward and Master Ken Ward, and dumb-bell and gymnastic displays by a party of boys from H.AI.S. Philomel.
