SECOND WHITE HERON

A white heron which has been leading a solitary existence in the trees in the Botanic Gardens, Christchurch, for the greater part of this year, was joined by a mate this week. It is the first time that two of these birds have been seen together in the gardens, and they seem likely to become permanent residents. During its time in the gardens the old resident has favoured two trees, one a pine 011 the edge of the pond near the kiosk, and the other a silver birch at the bog garden, and has done its foraging on the island in tho pond.
