CONFERENCE -AT TAURANGA \ZONE COMMITTEE FORMED [by telegr apii—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Fridny Matters relating tn Now Zealand's centennial wore considered at a mooting in Tauranga of .Mayors, chairmen and members of local authorities in the Hay of Plenty. The Mayor of Tauranga, Mr. L. It. Wilkinson, presided. Mr. Wilkinson read a letter received by him from tlio Mayor of Auckland, .Mr. Ernest Davis, stating that arrangements were made at an informal conference in Auckland for the zoning of the Auckland provincial area into districts, in which selected Mayors would call meetings to consider the tentative divisions of the areas into sections in which committees could bo formed. The Mayor of Opotiki, Mr. G. S. Moody, said ho thought the Bay of Plenty might work as ono area. One combined committee wonld achieve the best results. He therefore'moved that a committee be appointed comprising representatives of the local bodies throughout the Bay of Plenty and representatives of the Maori race. The motion was carried and it was agreed that the committee comprise the Mayor or chairman of the following local bodies: —Opotiki Borough Council, Opotiki County Council, Whakatane Borough Council, Whakatane County Council, Whakatane Harbour Board, To Puke Borough Council, Tauranga Borough Council, Tauranga County Council, Tauranga Harbour Board, and three representatives of the Maori race. The Mayor of Tauranga was appointed ch airman. Mr. W. E. Duncan, of Paihia, Bay of Islands, who was present, said he considered the formation of a series of centennial municipal service bureaux in areas off the beaten track of tourist and railway travel would bo highly appreciated by all overseas people visiting New Zealand for the celebrations. The chief object would be to render service to those who were desirous of obtaining a " close-up viewpoint " of New Zealand. On the motion of Mr. H. 0, Cooney, Mayor of To Puke, it was decided to ask the Bay of Plenty delegates to submit to the Auckland committee the proposal as outlined by Mr. Duncan. MEETING AT ROTORUA APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEE [BY TETiKCHAI'II—OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTOIUJA, Friday A district committee for the Hotorua zone, in connection with the New Zealand centennial celebrations, was formed to-day at a meeting convened by tho Mayor of Hotorua, Mr. T. Jackson. The committee is as follo\Vs: —The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, and Messrs. H. P. Ford, G. J. Ford, C. A. Clarke, F. Greenfield, N. M. Keano, G. Sutherland, E. Hartigan, H. M. Martin, W. J. Green, T. H. Sloane, IX W. Steele, G. H. Weir, C. J. Casev and Mesdames Powell, D. Ford, Hidings, Bryce, and Misses Mactier and Pea roe.
