POHUTU AGAIN ACTIVE WINTER TOURISTS INCREASE [IIV TELEGRAPH —OWN' CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA', Friday The Pohutn Geyser, in the Government' reserve at Whakarewarewn, has again, after a considerable period of quiescence, been affording an interesting spectacle Ho visitors. On September 1 the ge.vscr played 11 times and since then it has given one sustained display lasting 4J hours. The record for an uninterrupted shot is 17! hours. The geyser lias continued to play very vigorously, and over a period of 20 days 1-57 displays were recorded, compared with 45 shots over a period of I•'> days during the same month of the previous year. The Waikorohihi geyser has played almost continuously during the winter months, but Waikite, which has not played for 10 months, still shows no signs of activity. The other vents in the area are particularly active. Overseas visitors to Rotorua have had an excellent opportunity recently of seeing the thermal attractions at their best. Compared with other years, there has been a large increase in the number of overseas visitors to Rotorua during the winter months this year.
