COLLEGE CONCERT

ST. CUTHBERT'S PROGRAMME

St. Cuthbert's College Hall was filled to capacity last night on the occasion of the annual concert. A well-varied and attractive programme met with an enthusiastic reception. Items that proved particularly popular were two massed choral numbers, Handel's " Silent Worship " and Vaughan Williams' " Let Us Now Praise Famous Men." Part songs beautifully rendered were " Celtic Lullaby," " The Fairy Ping " and " The Piper From Over the Way." Another massed number was Thayer's " The Strong Go On," while form choirs sang " Old King Colo " and Song of Our Fathers." Dramatic items included an extract from an old Chinese play, " Lady Precious Stream," bv Hsuing, and a small pla.N, "The Stranger," by L. Swinyarcl, an interesting work woven round the music from Schumann's " Kinder Album." The girls of Form 1. gave a " baby operetta," " Ride-a-Cock-Horse." Choral speaking, drill demonstrations and a peasant dance completed the programme. Accompaniments throughout were played by Miss Pat Halliday. The concert will be repeated to-night.
