"THE NEW MOON"
For the benefit of the many who were turned away during the recent season, the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society's production "The New Moon" will be repeated at His Majesty's Theatre to-night and to-morrow afternoon and night. Scenes which include a mansion in Now Orleans, a bride ship at sea, a drinking rendezvous and the Isle of Pines are presented in rapid succession and carry the story along briskly. The costuming, after the fashion of the late 18th century, is gay ami colourful, and tlio ballet costumes, prepared by Mrs. L. O'Hara, aro particularly pleasing. The ballets give evidence of the careful training of Miss Rosetta Powell. The lyrics of "The New Moon" are among the best Romberg has written, and the most is made of them. Such well-known melodies as " Wanting You," " Softly As in a ."Morning Sunrise." " The .New Moon," "Stout-Hearted Men" and "Marianne" are included in the score. Krnest Snell, Leslie Russell, Gladys McAneny, Douglas Stark, Molly Creaghe and Edna Craig have leading roles. Booking arrangements are advertised.
