NORTH-WESTERLY WINDS FAIR TO FINE AT FIRST The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyclone still extends across the North Tasnian Sea and I northern New Zealand. A shallow depression has passed to ths eastward but a widespread one now covers southern Australia and the south-west Tasnian Sea. The forecast is for light to moderate westerly to south-westerly winds, veering gradually to north, westerly again and increasing, especially about and south of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough tcf rough in the south Taranaki Bight and Foveaux Strait areas, otherwise slight to ! moderate, but later rising on the west coast of the- South Island. Eastern Tasnian Sea: Moderate westerly winds veering to north-westerlies. Seas moderate, but wind and sea later increasing in the southern portion. A few isolated showers are likely j n western districts, but otherwise the weather should be fair to fine at first, later, however, conditions becoming unsettled and fairly widespread rain developing in districts with a westerly aspect and the far south. Temperatures becoming mild. v SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST r MAINLY FAIR AND MILD The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkk.ald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southwesterly to westerly winds, veering to north-westerlies to-morrow and freshcning somewhat. The weather is likely | to be for the most part fair, but some | isolated showers are likely, mainly in ! the western coastal areas. Temperaj tures mild. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine, sunny weather prevailed in Auckland yesterday. There was a shower of rain in the earlv morning but bright sunshine wa* experienced for the rest of the day. There was a light to moderate westerly wind and conditions were mild, the temperature at 4 p.m. being 82 degrees. The barometer showed a sharp rising tendency during the evening. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.25 in. Midnight, Wednesday ... 30.15 in. Wellington.—Tt was again brilliantly fine and a gentle southerly breeze prevailed most of the day. The maximum temperature was 59 degrees. Christchurch. —The day was dull but fine, with a maximum temperature of 53 degrees and a moderate easterly breeze. The barometer was rising slowly and List night read 30.07 in. Dunedin. —There were light rain showers in the morning, and the light j south-west wind which has prevailed during the past few days continued. Conditions were more settled in the afternoon, however, and the temperature rose-to 63 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.95 in. last night.
