RECEPTIONS TO -DELEGATES CONFERENCE OPENS TO-DAY [nY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION"] ' WELLINGTON, Thursday The 14th congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of tho British Empire will be officially opened by tho Governor-General, Viscount Galway, at tho Town Hall concert chamber tomorrow morning. The delegates will later be tendered a State luncheon by tho Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, and on tho resumption of the congress in the afternoon . tho president, Viscount Elibank, will deliver tho presidential address. Tho executive of the federation lunched to-day with tho executive of tho Now Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Norton Francis, the New Zoaland president, presiding. In the afternoon over 700 guests attended a reception given by the Wellington Chamber to delegates and those accompanying them, and were received by the president of the chamber, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, and Mrs. Norwood. Tho delegates and their wives were entertained at a reception at Government House this evening by Lord and Lady Galway. There will bo further receptions to-morrow evening. Picnic trips have been arranged for Saturday, and Sunday will bo a free day. The conference will resume on Monday morning. Moro delegates arrived to-day in Wellington, which was in perfect spring mood to welcome tho visitors.

Tho main body of tho delegates who came south from Auckland made special overland trips, one party visiting tho Tongariro National Park and the other the Waitomo Caves.

The delegates were deeply impressed by the beauty and splendour of the scenery, and wero amazed at tho wonders of tho Waitomo Caves. Tho concert chamber of the Town Hall has been transformed for tho congross, post office, telephone booths and other facilities having been installed.
