BOXING CHAMPIONS
ROSS AND CARROLL NEGOTIATIOiNS CANCELLED CHICAGO, Sept. 30 Mr. L. Pian, manager for Barney Ross, holder of the world's welterweight boxing title, told a representative of the Australian Associated Press to-day that he has cabled to Mr. Charles Lucas, who was promoting a. bout in Sydney in December between Ross and Jack Carroll, the Australian welterweight champion, informing him that he has cancelled the negotiations on account of the failure of Mr. Lucas to lodge the stipulated deposit. Mr. Pian added that he was now negotiating for a contest for Ross at Madison Square Garden, New York, with Lou' Ambers, who recently defeated Tony Canzoneri. Ross is to leave Chicago on Thursday for Wisconsin to begin training.
GREATLY DISAPPOINTED AUSTRALIAN CHALLENGER (Received September 30, 10.16 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 30 Jack Carroll is greatly disappointed at tho cancellation of his fight with Barney Ross. Carroll said that he had been offered contests in other States in Australia.
