AMATEUR ATHLETICS
PAPATOETOE CLUB SUCCESSFUL PAST SEASON A season of outstanding achievement was reported at the annual meeting of the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. The president, Mr. R. MacLeod, presided over an attendance of 1.30 mem hers. In spite of the adverse weather experienced during last summer, stated the executive's report, a record membership of 221 was attained. Several meetings were cancelled owing to inclement weather, but keen competition was provided over the season. The membership comprised 20 boy athletes, to lady cyclists, 51 athletes and 70 cyclists. During the vear 28 meetings were held under the floodlighting system at the Papatoetoe Stadium.
A record was established in regard to the expenditure on trophies, and just over .CIOO was paid out under that heading. The previous year tho expenditure had been £8!). The nomination fees totalled £37 17s. Excellent facilities for meetings were provided in the form of dressing rooms, complete with showers and accommodation for gear. The club was honoured Dy the selection of C. Littler and R. Taylor to represent the Auckland Province in the harrier, and cycling championships respectively. Appreciation was expressed of the assistance given the club and competitors by the Papatoetoe Town Board. * Officers were elected as follows: —Patron. Mr. W. W. Massey; vice-patron, Mr. J. OLD GRAMMARIANS CLUB There was a largo attendance of members at the annual meeting of tho Old Grammarians' Amateur Athletic Club held in tho school tuckshop. Tho success of the club during tho past season was commented upon favourably. The most outstanding successes were the winning of both the A and B grades of tho scratch racing competitions, tho winning for the third successive year of the Auckland provincial mile medley relay title and the annexing of the junior points championship at the provincial meeting.
Throughout I lie season regular meetings were held for club members on Tuesday evenings. After the club's throe years of competition, club records were doclared, a (rood standard being shown. It was decided that during tho coming season indoor competitions bo inaugurated, the meetings to be held in tho school gymmurium, tho first on October 14.
