METEOROLOGICAL
WESTERLY WINDS UNSETTLED IN THE SOUTH The weather report , and forecast for New Zealand; issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyclone, extends across the north Tasm.m Sea and northern New Zealand, while the first of an expensive series of westerly de- . pressions is approaching the South Island. The forecast is for moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds prevailing, reaching gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier. Seas rough south of Cape Eginont an 1 about Cook and Foveautf Straits, elsewhere slight- to moderate but later rising north of Capo- Egmont and in offshore Waters south of Xopier. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong winds between north-west and west, of gale force in the southern portion. Seas moderate in the northern portion and rough in the central and southern portions. The weather is likely to be unsettled and rain is probable in the western and far southern portions of the South Island; elsewhere mainly fair to fine, but rain gradually extending to most districts with a westerly aspect. Temperatures mild. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MAINLY FAIR AND MILD The Government meteorologist isstied to the Hkrald last evening the follow- ! ing special forecast for the Auckland i Province: —Moderate westerly winds, | freshening and veering to north-wester- ■ lies. The weather is likely to be mainly I fair and mild, but some scattered* ; shower? are likely, more especially iu | western areas. Seas slight to moderate, ! but rising on the West Coas' j YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was si continuation , of fine weather yesterday and the wind was moderate south-west. The temperature was mild, the thermometer recording 60 degrees at 4 p.m. The barometer | rose slightly during the morning and I was steady "after mid-day . Barometer, midnight, steady. .. 30,15 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. 30,05 in. - Wellington.—The day. was line and 1 i sunny, but a strong and squally northj westerly wind blew. The maximum tein- | perature was 57 degrees. ! Christchurch. —The- weather was | sunny and clear with a very light eastj north-easterly breeze in the morning j and a light north-westerly breeze in I the afternoon. The maximum tempera- ! ture was 6.3 degrees. The barometer, after falling, was rising slowly last night, when it registered 29.70 in. Dunediia. —There was a strong breeze from the south-west, but the sun shone brightly and the temperature rose to 68 degrees.
