RADIO STATION WANTED

REQUEST FpOM WHAKATANE

SERVICE IN BAY OF PLENTY [by telegraph—owx correspondent] WHAKATANE, Tuesday A desire for the establishment of a radio broadcasting station at Whakatane was expressed at a meeting of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce last night. Mr. Beckett said the Bay of Plenty did not have the advantage of a B class wireless station, the nearest stations being at Hamilton and Gisborne. Consequently, only powerful receiving sets were able to obtain a daytime service.

It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Rand, to ask the director of broadcasting that, when the future of the B stations is being surveyed, the claims of Whakatane as the centre of the Bay of Plenty area be considered.
