BOXING INJURIES
VIEWS OF CORRESPONDENT
A corrcspoudent, "Karluk," Papakura, writes as follows: —"In your account of the McCullock-Donaldson fight in the amatour preliminaries to the Semi-Nichols professional bout in Monday's paper, it is stated: —'In the same round the loser (Donaldson) had previously been to the canvas once for the count, of nine and three times for the count of seven.' One is not surprised to read on the same page of your paper that Donaldson was sent to hospital. He is a very fortunate fellow as many of New Zealand's best boxers havo been sent to their graves by indulgent referees who have allowed groggy men to continue when they were out on their feet.
i "This sort of thing should not be allowed, indeed the blow to point should not be exploited in this way, as you are tampering with the spinal cord and the lower brain and, therefore, with a man's life. There have been many tragedies of this kind in New Zealand of recent years, and there is grave necessity for adjustment of the rules and regulations governing the noble art."
