TEST CRICKET CAPTAIN

ALLEN IN BOWLING FORM G. 0. Alien, England's cricket captain for the Australian and New Zealand tour, showed how dangerous he can be as a fast bowler when he took six Kent wickets for 39 runs, and played a great part in dismissing that county in its first innings for 85 runs, says the London correspondent of the Herald. Maintaining great pace and an almost immaculate length, he took four wickets in seven balls and five in less than three overs.

Other England cricketers who excelled in their matches included Leyland. Although he was not at his best he showed a straight bat to every ball bowled to him. Leyland secured many fours against Surrey in his total of 107 before being caught and bowled by Holmes.
