DEFENCE LEAGUE
HARBOUR BOARD'S ACTION
NO OFFICIAL INTEREST
No official interest is to be taken by the Auckland Harbour Board in the formation of a New Zealand Defence League. When an invitation to send representatives to a meeting of citizens to discuss the organisation of an Auckland branch was received by the board yesterday it was decided not to accept the invitation and the chairman, Mr. C. G. Macindoe, asked any members who might attend to refrain from expressing their views as board members.
"I do n&t consider that this is a matter for board representation," said Mr. Macindoe when the invitation, suggesting that five representatives be sent, was read. " If members up to the number of five wish to attend the meeting they are at liberty to do so, but if they do take part I must ask them not to express any views as board members but as private persons."
