AUCKLAND CAPTAIN'S POST

A passunger from Rarotonga by the Maknra was Captain John Benton,, of Auckland. He arrived to take up tbJ appointm snt of captain of the schooner Tiare Taporo, in succession to Captain Rasmussen, who will shortly assume the duties of resident agent at Penrhyn, with the Cook Islands Administration.
After reai'ly 45 years at sea, Captain Benton retired about a year ago. Most of his service was with R. S. Lamb ami Company, Limited, and the TJnio.i Steam Ship Company. In his youth Captain Benton spent several years in sailing ships in the Islands. The Tiara Taporo i;i a small schooner, owned by A. B. Dcnald, Limited. Built in Auckland befcre the war, she is engaged in passenger and cargo trade around tho Islands, with headquarters at Pare* tonga.
