CRIPPLED CHILDREN
OBJECTIVE OF SOCIETY j The principal objective of the New Zealand Cripplud Children Society is to provide the cost of training crippled children so that they will be placed in a position to earn their own livelihood. This was stressed in a communication read at the annual meeting of the Northcote Welfare League from the honorary secretary of the Auckland branch, Mr. G. J. Park. It was pointed out that crippled children socioties did not undertake work which was the responsibility of hospital boards, and therefore did not provide any part of the cost of medical or surgical work and in most cases were not expected to provide medical or surgical requirements. The Auckland branch covered the whole of the Auckland Province, and as all of the work was being done by honorary v-'orkers, it was not possible for visits to be paid to the various parts of the province. In consequence, the society had asked each local body to establish an auxiliary committee, which in the local body area would do the necessary local work also in an honorary capacity. It was hoped in this way to ensure that all funds entrusted 'to the Crippled Children Society would be used for the benefit of the crippled children themselves. It was further stated that an auxiliary committee ascertains all the cripples in its district, considers their needs and the position of the parents, and makes recommendations to the Auckland branch in respact to the needs of tuo cripples. The Northcote Welfare League has been appointed the local committee for the borough area.
