TROOPS FOR PALESTINE

FIRST CONTINGENT SAILS OTHERS SOON TO FOLLOW British Wireless RUGBY, Sept. 13 The first detachment of troops for the reinforcement of the British forces in Palestine left Bordon Camp early yesterday morning for Southampton to join the Dorsetshire. The vessel sailed later with 1700 men, including two units of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, comprising 53 officers and 1132 men of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and Royal Irish Fusiliers. They were joined at Southampton by the 6th Field Park, and the 12th and 6th Field Companies of the Royal Engineers.

On Monday other vessels of the emergency transport fleet, the Laurentic and Navara, will leave Southampton with the headquarters staffs of the Ist Division, some of the smaller units and half the 2nd Infantry Brigade. The Laurentic is a fast vessel and is expected back at Southampton in time to sail again about October 20 probably with the 3rd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards and the 2nd Battalion of the Buffs, to complete the force.

ARABS' NEW LEADER

EFFICIENCY OF CAMPAIGN TRAINED IN TURKISH ARMY LONDON, Sept. 0 The Arab campaign in Palestine is now being conducted with greater efficiency, says the Jerusalem correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. The new leader of the Arabs, Fauzi Bey, was trained in the Turkish Army and gave the French much trouble in Syria in 1925 and 1926. He is trying to incite all the Arabs.

Amateurish, home-made bombs are being replaced by scientific bombs.
