THREEPENNY PIECES

LARGER COIN OF NICKEL [FROM A SPECIAL CORRESPONDKNT] ' LONDON, August 20 Nickel threepenny-bits—bigger than the silver coins in circulation now may soon be produced by the British Mint. As a coin, the threepenny-bit is bound to continue. The mint has listened to pleas for its abolition, but it cannot afford to turn down the £60,000 order that comes each year from Scotland and takes away twothirds of the threepenny-bits. The larger coin may popularise the threepenny-bit. London opinion on the present coin is definite. Women refuse to take them in change. They say they slip between gloved fingers and are lost. "People get rid of them to xne," said a bus conductor. "I don't Jnind, ■> exception a cold day, when they slip my fingers."
