HARYLEBONE TEAM DEPARTURE FROM LONDON OPTIMISM OF CAPTAIN By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received September 13, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 12 A crowd of enthusiasts bade farewell to the Marylebone cricketers at Waterloo station to-day, when they left on the first stage of their journey to Australia. Verity was given a very warm send-off. He said he was feeling quite fit, but he looked rather jaded. He had been in bed suffering from influenza, but after an examination j his doctor allowed him the team. Hundreds of telegrams were delivered before the train steamed out of the station. In summing up the team's prospects, A. P. F. Chapman, the former English captain, says it has not less than an even chance of regaining the " ashes." The team, says Chapman, has solid batting and variety in the bowling, and should be exceptionally good in the field. England in bowling appears to be much superior to Australia, but in batting Australia will be tremendously poweiful. G. 0. Allen, the team's captain, speaking at a farewell dinner at Lord s. stated: "Some say the team has a difficult job. I do not believe it will be so difficult. I am full of faith in the < players. Honestly, I would not change one of them."
