IMPROVED CONDITIONS AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUED Following a short spell of fine weather, local golf courses wore in good order during the week-end, when competitions were continued by the various clubs. The qualifying rounds of the junior championship were played at I Middlemen.- and, with two rounds of ST. W B. Souter led the field. E. Harper was second and F. \V. Wilson and E. Friend lander, who had the best score of the day, were next. In the semifinal of the George Cup com|>etition, It. H. Menzte.s,was beaten at the 17th by C. Knight, who will now meet 11. S. Bruce in the final. / The second qualifying round for the championships was played at Titirangi, J. H. Young heading the list with rounds of SI and 76. J. Galloway and «T. M. Coltman, who returned the best round the previous week, were next, while C. G. Fisher shared the honours with Young for the best score of the day. In the intermediate grade, R. B. Hardy returned the best aggregate and he also won the Self Cup, a competition which was decided over threo medal rounds. The scoring in the first qualifying round at North Shore was not of a very high standard, A. E. Browne leading with a 77, with A. J. Spracgon next. S. 1?. Dickey and A. R. Smith were the respective leaders in the intermediate and junior-grades. Three players, H. Wiggins, J. Swanson and A. 11. Finn, tied for the lead at Akarana, where the scoring was disappointing. At Maungakiekie and Otahuhu, the match-play rounds were commenced and there were surprises at both clubs. At One Tree Hill, H. Tidmarsh and J. D. Shanly were defeated by J. Palmer and L. E. Vivian respectively, while last .year's champion, H. Bell, was decisively beaten by S. Clark at Otahuhu. It. Pacey defeated I. Howden in the semi-final of the Pupuke Club's Bell Cup competition, and L. Johnston and C. H. Palmer were winners of medal events. The finals of the club and junior championships were played, the winners being W. D. Ross and C. H. Palmer respectively. W. Laxon was the only player to break 80 in the Glendowie Club's championship qualifying round. J. Lane led the intermediates and R. K. Davie, who is on a 23 handicap, returned an 88 to head the juniors.

PENNANT MATCH AKARANA AND CLENDOWIE The postponed B grade pennant match between Glendow4e' and Akarana, which wes played during the weejc, resulted 1 in a draw. A strong l.ortb-west wind was blowing and the greens were heavy. Ross was 2 up after the first IS holes, and won easily. A medial lounii was won by L. Johnston with e score of 82, 19 —03, the next best bf-infr T. G. de Clive Lowe, 82, 15—<!7; H. Mullls, 85, 18—67; H. 0. Probert, 80. 11— 69; and N. F. Buist, 81, 11—70. The gold button was won by C. 11. Palmer, with 79, 14 —05, the next best being G. A. Waterman, 82, 12-—7O, R. Pacey beat I. ITowden, 2 and 1, in the semi-final for the Bell Cup. In the Junior championship, played over 36 holes, C. H. Palmer defeated H. A. Craig, 3 and 2.
