ENJOYABLE SUNDAY CONCERT Modern compositions were selected for a pleasing; musical concert, presented under the auspices of the Auckland Society of Musicians, to a larga audience in the Lewis Eady Hall yesterday afternoon. liendered with admirable balance and tone, Frank Bridge's "Phantasie Trio in C Minor" opened the programme, the artists being Misk Lois Walls (violin), Miss Lalla Hemus ('cello) and Mf. Owen Jensen, (piano). Another in* strumental feature of note was the Elgar "Sonata for Violin and Pilmo" by Mr. Vincent Aspey (violinist), who captured the charm of the piece without forsaking it for technical intrica- _ cies, and Mr. Jensen, who also of:ered a bracket of enjoyable piano numbers. They included the Brittany spinning study, "Fileuses pres de Caraittec" (Rhone-Baton), the Maliepiero images to a parrot, to an elephant and io an idiot, and the refreshing "An Irish Dell" and dynamic "The Road Breaker," by H. Waldo Warner.

Six attractive baritone songs were contributed by Mr. Len Barnes. Ifhree were , jaunty romantic ditties —"To Phyllis, Milking her Flock" (Arthur Benjamin), "There is a Lad} - " fred Bury), and "All in the .Briaf Bushes" (Dermot MacMurrough)" and othen. were the pathetic Bichara llage* man-G. K. Chesterton combinsitioa, "Tho Donkey," and two spirited songs, "February" (Armstrong Gibbs), And "Tartary" (Graham Peel). Miss Gwemia Weir gave three delightlui soprano items. Foremost among them was the quaint "Johneen," by Stanford. Tho othors were the melodious "Maria Wiegenlied" (Max Reger) and Elgar's romantic "Rondel." Mr. Jensen accompanied the - soloists.
