FRUIT INQUIRY

COMMITTEE IN AUCKLAND SITTINGS RESUME TO-DAY The citrus fruit industry in New Zealand is receiving special attention by the L'ruit Marketing Committee and, according to a statement made last night by the chairman of the committee, Mr. A. Coleman, of Stratford, the evidence taken last week from growers at Kcrikcri would assist materially in the committee's mission for improving the handling and marketing of New Zealand-grown and imported fruit and vegetables. The committee members returned to Auckland from Kerikeri on Saturday. Further evidence will be taken in Auckland to-day from wholesale fruit merchants, and sittings.will continue until Thursday night. The next sittings will be conducted in Wellington next week, after which the committee will proceed to Nelson, where it expects to arrive about September 29. The committee was appointed by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, and comprises Mr. Coleman, Mr. J. A. Campbell, director of the horticultural division of the Department of Agriculture, and Mr. J. E. Thomas, of the Department of Industries and Commerce. The inquiry is being held under the Board of Trade Act, and is of a private nature. Anyone who desires may appear as a witness on application to the chairman or the district office of the department. i
