ADDITIONS TO SCHOOL
CLASSROOMS AT PAPATOETOE OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY Tho two new classrooms recently added to tho Papatoetoe District School were officially opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr. C. 11. Petrie, M.P. for Hauraki. A largo gathering was welcomed by tho chairman of tho school committee, Dr. J. J. Valentine. The district representative on the Auckland Education Board, Mr. W. J. Bowyer, tho chairman of tho Papatoetoe Town Board, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, and other local body members wero present. v Mr. Petrio referred to tho growth of the Papatoetoe district and tho increaso in tho school roll, which necessitated the now classrooms. Ho said the accommodation was fully taxed by the roll of 760, and ho understood that next year it would bo insufficient. Tho stage was rapidly being reached when it would not be practicable to carry out additional building on tho present school site, and ho advised tho committee to seriously consider taking more advantage of the facilities offering at tho Otahuliu Technical High School, which served tho Papatoetoe district. Under tho financial provisions for this year tho incomes of school committees would bo increased by about 50 per cent, said Mr. rotrie. In addition, the Government had made available £45,000 lor the improvmont of school grounds. It had not been found possible this year to restore tho subsidy on moneys raised locally for school improvements, i During the afternoon a committee of i voluntary workers did good business at ' a number of stalls and the scholars gavo displays of marching and folk dancing j under the direction of tho headmaster, Mr. P. F. Skinner.
