NAPIER STRIKE ENDED
COUNCIL RELIEF WORKERS CASE BEING CONSIDERED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] NAPIER, Monday After a week on strike the parttime workers of the Napier Borough Council and the Hawke's Bay County Council returned to work this morning. The strike was a protest against the No. 5 scheme. One man said today that they had been told to return to their jobs, as the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, was giving their representations consideration. About 70 workers were engaged in the strike. They want a full 40-liour week at award rates of pay. Last week they made representations to the Secretary of Labour, Mr. J. S. Hunter, wlio promised to bring the matter before Mr. Armstrong. The question of sustenance payments for the time the men were ou strike was referred bv them to Mr. Hunter and also the Hon. W. E. Barnard, M.P. Mr. Barnard said he did not think their request would be granted.
