MAYORALTY CAMPAIGN
MOUNT ALBERT CONTEST POLICY OF DEPUTY-MAYOR Opposition to any project that might result in an increase in the rates of the borough was expressed by the deputy-mayor of Mount Albert, Mr. H. A. Anderson, when continuing his campaign for the Mayoralty at the Balmoral Presbyterian Church Hall last night. Mr. J. Russell presided. "A balanced budget will be my objective each year, and I will oppose the reestablishment of a borough overdraft, an account which has been extinguished recently for the first time in many years," stated Mr. Anderson. Mr. Anderson said that capital works carried out during the past three years, including the present year's programme, were valued at £90,000, while all maintenance work had been satisfactorily done, and no increase in the rates had been involved. There were now 20} miles of concrete ..footpaths in the borough, and in the last three years 8} miles of bitumen carriageways had been sealed, and 8} miles of sewer drains constructed. "1 offer myself as a trained business man for a seat on the Transport Board," said Mr. Anderson.
