DARGAVILLE NEWS

The most brilliant and successful social event of the season, the returned soldiers ball, Avas held last week in the Royal Theatre. The hall, which was crowded with dancers from all parts of the district, was decorated to represent a star-lit garden, a huge canopy of gauze dotted with stars and suitably illuminated, creating a most realistic evening effect. Dr. and Mrs. Burton, of St. Helena, and formerly of Dargaville, are visiting friends in the North. Mrs. Harold Goodwin, of Stanley Bay, was a recent visitor to Dargaville. Mrs. Len Hilton, of Gordon Road, is spending a holiday in Auckland. > Miss Ngaire Hayes, of Epsom, is visiting her mother, Mrs. G. N. Hayes, Hokianga Road. Mrs. E. Howard, of Parnell, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Roy Hume, of Victoria Street. Mrs. Simons, of Auckland, has been spending a few days in Dargaville. Miss Greta Coleman, of Ifawke's Bay, is spending a holiday with her father. Mr. B. Coleman,, Tangowahine. Miss P. Biddies, of Mangarata, is visiting friends in Palnierston North. Miss M. McKay, of Whangarei, has been spending a few days with Mrs. I'-- Wigg. Miss Phelan, of Auckland, who has been visiting Mrs. F. Carr, of Hokianga Road, returned home during the week-end. Mrs. Owen Hooton, of Awakino Road, has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. Cowan, of Pukekohe, is visiting her daughter, -Mrs. W. Crosbie, of Gordon Road. Miss Macaulay, of Auckland, is the guest of Miss Drunuuond, Hokianga Road. Mrs. Petrie, accompanied by Miss Paddy Petrie, is visiting Mrs. P. Walden, Gladstone Road. Mrs. C. Peat, of Waipu, is visiting her mother, Mrs F. Carr, Hokianga Road. ' Mrs. McCullough, of Mount Albert, is visiting her 6ister, Mrs. Izzard, Mangawhare.
