FUGITIVE CAR
PURSUIT IN STREETS POLICE NIGHT PATROL SHOTS FIRED IN THE AIR A police patrol car and another cap in which were two youths figured in a sensational chase through the city and suburbs at an early hour yesterday morning. The patrol car, driven by Constable Howe, with Detective Brady and Constable Lander as passengers, was proceeding along Ponsonby Road shortly after ono o'clock when the officers' suspicions were aroused by tho erratic courso of a five-soater touring car containing two youths. Tho police followed the car, which immediately accelerated, travelling along Karangahapo Road and into Symonds Street at a high speed. The vehicle was pursued along Dominion Road, and through several streets to Mount Albert Road, tho chaso being continued as far as Rosobank Road, where the fugitive car had to come to a halt in a blind road. It is alleged that, just before the car stopped, ono of tho youths opened a door and pointed a revolver at tho police officers. Tho youths then ran across tho road into a paddock and were lost in the darkness, the detective firing into the air. A search was made by the police, and as a result two youths who are alleged to be connected with the affair will be charged in the Children's Court. The car pursued by the police was tho property of Mr. S. Tew, of Richardson Road, Mount Albert, who had parked it outside his residence late on Sunday night. He did not discover it was missing until ho awoke yesterday morning.
