DOOR OF HOPE

THE ANNUAL MEETING CARE OF YOUNG GIRLS A satisfactory year in spite of financial difficulties was reported at the annual meeting of the Door of Hope Association, held in the rooms of the Christian Alliance of Women and Girls, vesterday afternoon. The chairman, Mr. W. R. Wilson, presided. The excellent nature of the work which had been carried on by the association lor 40 years, in caring for the young girls of the city, was stressed by Mr. Wuson, who paid a tribute to Mrs. John Graham, matron of the Salem Home, for her wonderful influence and work among the girl 3. Special thanks were also due to Dr. Woodward Horsley for her valuable services in time of need. Mr. Wilson appealed for more response and practical fellowship on the part of those interested in the work of the association. In the report presented by the secretary it was stated "at no period in the history of our city is work among the young more necessary than at present. The dangers facing youth to-day cannot bo over-estimated. They are met with attractive temptation on every hand and only those who are fortified by Christian experience stand much chance in the fight to maintain their ideals." The definite results achieved through this Christian influence and training, the report continued, was without doubt the bright feature of the work. Financially, the past year had been a very difficult one, the expenditure exceeding the income by £.378. As the association was entirely dependent for its successful continuation on the generosity of tlio public of Auckland, the committee appealed for the support necessary at this difficult time. Iho work of the association was undenominational and the cominittco comprised men and women representative of nearly all the Protestant Churches. The retiring members of the -committee, Mr. H. Ennor and Mr. H. D. Guthrie, were re-elected, and Mr. H. W. Shove again offered his services us auditor.
